Marcus Island

Last weekend was Hoopfest weekend in Spokane and with storms on the horizon and temperatures rising, some friends of ours suggested we get out of town and promised me some waterfront views.  With a promise like that, how could a penguin refuse?!

I was out in the truck faster than lightning, which is fitting since we were packing up in the middle of a thunderstorm!

We weren't alone, though, as our friend the Traveling Tortuga was coming out with us with his own camper.

It wasn't long before we were on the road, heading north to one of their favorite spots.

The farther north we went, the less rain there was and the warmer it got.

Eventually, we arrived...

Marcus Island (really, more of a peninsula) was busy!  There were plenty of people boating and camping here but even nearly full, it wasn't overly crowded.  With plenty of space between campsites, we felt like we had room to stretch without running into one another.

Since we can do two vehicles to a site, we crammed into one spot (the last open one) and settled in.

Sunset came and the boats all left.  We just sat and enjoyed the peace and calm...away from the bustle of life and in real natural beauty.

Before too long, it was time to get up again and Traveling Tortuga was already ready with a hot cup of tea. (No coffee for us, it would stain!)

After taking in the brisk morning air, we went back to the camper to make some breakfast.

Tots and eggs, what better way to start out the day?!

Once that was done, we packed up and headed out to enjoy even more of the nature all around us (and we are still less than two hours away from home).

Before long, the Traveling Tortuga led us off the pavement toward more adventure.

Pierre Lake campground was more crowded and less roomy than where we stayed but has the advantage of a better beach and still has gorgeous views.

We all grabbed a seat and chatted a while, just letting the day go by while we soaked up the sun.

After we had enough sun (and the blazing heat), we retreated to the air conditioning of our trucks and started back toward Colville.

Once there, I remembered a friend of ours highly recommended going to Maverick's for their Carmel Crunch Delight so that's where we went!

This dessert was just the right mix of a light caramel sauce, crunchy nuts, and ice cream...it was everything we were promised!

It certainly didn't last long. :)

Once we finished, they gave us the boot...

With stomachs full and memories made, it was time to return home...

While the trip wasn't long, it was a blast and Marcus Island campground is one we definitely recommend going to and enjoying.

Until the next adventure...
