Campfires and sandcastles

It was another hot weekend coming up and it started feeling like it was time to find someplace cool to camp out.

However, my driver's Jeep was getting new gears and the truck was in for gauges and other work so we are stuck with no place to go, right?

WRONG!!

A few friends invited us to join them for some camping on the lake at Klinks Resort, which is not too far away from our home base in Spokane.  While we didn't have our camper, we still had a blast!

We hitched a ride from some other friends going down and got there a bit late as the sun started to set but little did we know that an evening of fun was just starting.

We had some experts at fire making and before long, everyone was warming themselves and their food with a smile on their face.

As the fire grew taller, the smiles grew bigger...

It didn't take long before we brought out the s'mores and were roasting marshmallows.

I was a bit afraid that the melted marshmallows would be too sticky and make a mess on my beak so I stuck to the side with a smaller candle of my own.

As it got late, all the humans piled into the tent but I stayed up a bit longer, enjoying the brisk night air and beautiful candlelight.

The next morning, people started to stir, one by one, and a few went out to catch some fish on the dock. This place has everything!

Much to my dismay, however, the girls didn't catch any fish. (My driver/cook doesn't eat fish, for some unknown reason, so I rarely get a chance to have it anymore.)

The water was warm though, so everyone went for a swim and spent some time in the sun. The day was perfect for it!

We regrouped for lunch (delicious sandwiches), and a little relaxation out of the water.

As we let the food digest, someone broke out Settlers of Catan and we had fun fighting for resources in the shade.

Once that was done, we got warmed back up with some frisbee and tossing the volleyball about.

These girls really know how to play!

As we settled back in deciding what to do, one of the staff came over with an invite to participate in a sandcastle contest.  What fun!!

We took a quick dip in the water again and then started in on a very creative sand sculpture, if I do say so myself.

We started with the idea of a cruise ship and then thought we should have it merge with a castle...

Before long, we had a fortress attached to this cruise ship...

In the end, we had an impressive sculpture of a cruise ship that was backed into an island to escape the zombie apocalypse and had started its own safe colony...free of the zombie virus.

From the front...

From the back...

Eventually, it was time to get back.  So we said goodbye to our gracious hosts (who, along with a number of other campers, took a bunch of pictures of our masterpiece) and grabbed a ride back.

The weekend was a blast and my driver and I agree...this is someplace we will have to come back to again!
